DSEI Interior Sul promotes the National Day to Combat Sexual Abuse and Exploitation
Event also dealt with strengthening the emotional health of indigenous people
The National Day to Combat the Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Adolescents did not go unnoticed in the Special Indigenous Sanitary District (DSEI) Interior Sul, in the Guarita Base Pole. The Kaingang indigenous women held a mobilization called My Body, My Territory, on May 18th. The event gathered more than 600 people.
The goal was to raise awareness about the need to work for non-violence against children, young people, and indigenous women. The National Day to Combat the Abuse and Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents was created by Law No. 9970/2000.
In addition to the indigenous public, the action was attended by representatives of the Federal Public Ministry and Funai, local governments, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, the Mission Council for Indigenous Peoples (COMIN), the Águas Novas Institute, and the Police Force present in the region.
The Coordinator of the DSEI Southern Interior, Alexandre Rossettini, explained that the idea came from the indigenous people themselves and was fully supported by the District. According to him, the idea of the group is to propose a continuous debate about non-violence against women.
It is worth mentioning that the program also included the presentation of the project Mental Health Support for Psychosocial Care and Traditional Medicine to Indigenous Peoples, made by representatives of the Polo Base Guarita. The Coordinator informed that the project aims at strengthening the emotional health of the indigenous people.
