The 6th National Indigenous Health Conference is coming
The organizing committee met in Brasilia to discuss the next steps of the event that will update the National Policy for the Health Care of Indigenous Peoples.

With emphasis on this word, the Special Secretary of Indigenous Health (SESAI) of the Ministry of Health, Reginaldo Ramos Machado, opened the 19th Ordinary Meeting of the Organizing Committee of the 6th edition of the National Conference on Indigenous Health (CNSI). The working event took place in Brasilia, on May 19th and 20th, and was attended by representatives of the thematic commissions from several parts of the country. The president of the National Health Council, Fernando Pigatto, was also present.
During the opening, Machado highlighted the need to work with dynamism and union, in order to structure an event that, in fact, finds mechanisms to improve the basic care offered to the indigenous population. In addition, the Secretary also informed that all SESAI teams are mobilized and committed to the realization of the conference.
"Whenever we talk about the 6th Conference, we need to show our enthusiasm and joy, to awaken these feelings in the participants. Here in SESAI we are all working with synergy, unity and focus for the realization of the best conference of all", he comments.
The general-secretary of the 6th Conference, Willian Cesar Lopes Domingues, said that it is possible to feel the commitment of the Secretariat with the realization of the event. "The sixth edition will be the best and biggest of all. It is already a landmark, thanks to its planning process. In fact, I can feel SESAI´s commitment to implement the decisions and act for the realization of the 6th CNSI", he declares.
According to Willian, during the two days of work, the organizing committee was able to retrieve materials and definitions already structured in the local and district stages. The agenda of the 19th ordinary meeting included debates about the composition of the thematic commissions, appointment of coordinators, publicizing the 6th CNSI, presentation and approval of the Internal Rules, updating the status of the event´s realization, and definition of the work agenda for the responsible groups.
About the Conference
The 6th CNSI is a realization of the National Health Council and the Ministry of Health. It is expected that at least two thousand indigenous delegates, elected by their districts, will participate in the debate of proposals and guidelines that review and update the actions of health promotion, prevention, and recovery, provided for in the National Policy for Indigenous Peoples Health Care (PNASPI), approved 20 years ago. The last edition of the Conference took place in Brasilia in December 2013, bringing together 1,226 delegates.
